Our Newest Hospice Volunteers, Spring 2013

New Hospice Volunteers Ready to Serve the Community

In April, fifteen new Hospice Volunteers graduated from CHANS Home Health & Hospice's ten week Volunteer Training Program. The New Hospice Volunteers are equipped to assist individuals who are at end-of-life and their family members, throughout the Midcoast Area.

The free training program prepared individuals to deal compassionately and sensitively with end-of-life issues in a volunteer capacity. The weekly training sessions cover topics such as, Introduction to the Hospice Philosophy, Ethical Issues, Communication, Spirituality, Grief and Loss, and other educational topics that support the relationship between the person who is at end-of-life, their family, and the Volunteer.

Volunteers serve as companions to the terminally ill and may be a supportive listener, run errands, and/or provide respite for caregivers, among other things. Volunteers may also be in contact with the family and friends after thier loved one has died, in order to provide grief support.

Snow policy: If the Brunswick schools are closed, the Hospice Center is closed and all programs are cancelled
All services provided by our volunteers and coordinator, including home visits and consultations are free. We appreciate, and use, contributions and memorial donations from individuals, towns, and businesses to support the free services that we provide.
